Self-Reliance 11:00 PM | 1 comments I need to update my playlist. Deuce likes that I have The Roots on here so I suppose that song shall stay, just for his occasional visits. I'm currently reading Self-Reliance, one of the most popular essays by Ralph Waldo Emerson and he says some thought provoking shit in here. He's very blunt...perhaps that's why I like it so. He was a transcendentalist and was as far left of conformity as one could be. [my blog title has been that for as long as I've been reading Emerson] I should be in bed but instead I am up reading this and writing a paper. Oh, I also started The Big Sea, an autobiography by Langston Hughes. It's black history months so I figured hey, why not this book. "Society is a wave. The wave moves onward, but the water of which it is composed does not. The same particle does not rise from the valley to the ridge. Its unity is only phenomenal. The persons who make up a nation to-day , next year die, and their experience with them." -Emerson WORDUP. &holler;™ |
